Shower Mixer Replacement in Singapore

For a shower control that leaks, feels stiff, will not blend hot and cold water correctly, or no longer matches the replacement fittings. We check the mixer type, exposed connections, access and compatibility first, then confirm what is included before work starts.

Quick answer: when this is a shower mixer job

Use this service when the hot/cold control body is leaking, seized, loose or failing to mix water correctly. An exposed like-for-like mixer can often be replaced without opening the wall after the connection centres, wall unions, shut-off and new model are checked. If only the shower head, handset, hose, rail or rain set is faulty, use shower head replacement instead. A concealed mixer body is assessed first because hacking, waterproofing and tile reinstatement may be separate work.

Visit charges and quote boundaries

Standard visit: a S$10 fuel surcharge per visit, with no additional standard call-out or inspection fee.

Optional priority timing: an urgent visit or customer-requested appointment time can add one separate S$30 priority appointment fee, subject to availability and confirmation.

Separate from those visit charges: repair labour, replacement mixer, fittings, materials, concealed-pipe work, hacking, waterproofing, tiles and additional scope. These are confirmed before work. See the current service terms.

Mixer, shower head or general tap?

Shower mixer

The wall- or deck-mounted control that blends hot and cold water. Typical symptoms are leakage around the body, a stiff handle, unstable temperature or a failed diverter.

Shower head and accessories

The head, handset, hose, rail and rain set sit after the mixer. For a cracked hose, blocked head or loose rail, use shower head replacement.

Kitchen or basin tap

For a dripping kitchen or wash-basin tap, loose spout or cartridge issue outside the shower, use the leaking tap repair guide.

What we check before replacement

Mixer type and mounting

Exposed wall mixer, bath-shower mixer, deck-mounted mixer or concealed trim and cartridge. Mounting controls what can be changed without opening the wall.

Connection spacing

Centre distance, wall unions, thread condition and existing adaptors. A new unit should not be forced onto mismatched connections.

Hot and cold arrangement

Which side supplies hot water, whether both supplies work, and whether a heater or pressure issue is being mistaken for a mixer fault.

Shut-off and access

Local isolation, main shut-off access, surrounding sealant and enough clearance to remove the old mixer without damaging finishes.

Leak source

Handle, cartridge, diverter, spout, wall union, hose connection or a concealed point. The visible drip is not always the source.

Replacement compatibility

Brand and model, supplied fittings, centre distance, outlet layout and whether the replacement unit is complete before removal.

Repair or replace?

The decision depends on the fault, parts availability and the condition of the body and connections. We do not assume replacement before checking accessible parts.

Exposed and concealed mixers are different jobs

Exposed mixer

The body and unions are visible. A compatible like-for-like replacement is the clearest scope, subject to shut-off, thread condition and leak testing.

Concealed cartridge access

Some concealed mixers allow cartridge service through the trim plate. The exact brand and cartridge must be identified before ordering or dismantling.

Concealed body replacement

If the body inside the wall has failed, hacking, pipework, waterproofing and tile reinstatement may be required. These are assessed and quoted separately.

Do not buy only by appearance. Similar-looking mixers can have different centres, threads, diverter layouts or concealed bodies. Send the model label and wall-connection photos before purchasing where possible.

What to send for a useful written quote

  • One full photo: mixer, hose, shower head and surrounding wall.
  • One close photo: the exact leak, loose joint, damaged control or diverter.
  • Brand and model: label, logo, cartridge code or installation sheet if visible.
  • Replacement unit: front and box-label photos if already purchased.
  • Symptoms: leaking when on or off, stiff handle, unstable temperature, weak hot or cold flow, or failed diverter.
  • Property and access: HDB, condo, landed or commercial; postcode; shut-off access; and any management booking restriction.

How the process works

  • 1. Triage. We review symptoms, photos, property type, access and the replacement model.
  • 2. Scope. We state whether it looks like an exposed swap, repair attempt, concealed assessment or a different service.
  • 3. Quote. The written quote separates labour, mixer or parts, connection rectification and exclusions.
  • 4. Isolation and removal. Water is shut off and the old mixer is removed after access and scope are confirmed.
  • 5. Fit and connection check. The compatible mixer is installed without forcing mismatched unions or hiding damaged threads.
  • 6. Test and handover. We check visible joints, flow, hot/cold blending, diverter operation and leakage under use.

Licensed work and concealed-pipe boundaries

A straightforward replacement of an accessible tap or mixer may fall within simple plumbing work. Changes to regulated water service pipework, concealed pipes or sanitary plumbing must follow the applicable Singapore requirements. FixMove confirms the classification before work and arranges an assigned PUB Licensed Plumber where regulated scope is involved. See the PUB Licensed Plumber and submission guide.

Send the mixer and wall-connection photos

Send: a full mixer photo, close-up of the fault, brand/model, replacement box label if purchased, property type, postcode and preferred timing.

You get: the likely scope, compatibility questions, visit-charge confirmation and a written quote with inclusions and exclusions before work.

Shower mixer replacement FAQ

What is the difference between a shower mixer and a shower head?

The shower mixer is the valve body or control that blends hot and cold water. The shower head, handset, hose, rail and rain set are outlet parts after that control. If the control body is leaking, stiff or no longer blending correctly, this page is the right scope. If only an outlet part is damaged, use the shower head replacement service instead.

Can a leaking shower mixer be repaired instead of replaced?

Sometimes. A loose connection, worn cartridge, washer or accessible seal may be repairable when the correct part is available and the mixer body is sound. Replacement is usually clearer when the body is corroded, cracked, badly seized, incompatible with available cartridges, or leaking again after a proper reseal. We confirm repair or replacement in the written scope before work.

Can FixMove replace an exposed shower mixer?

Yes, where the existing mixer and connections are exposed and accessible. We first check connection spacing, hot and cold arrangement, wall unions, shut-off access and the replacement model. Labour, parts and any connection rectification are separated in the quote.

What if the shower mixer is concealed inside the wall?

A concealed mixer is assessed before any commitment. Cartridge access may be possible through the trim plate, but replacing the concealed body can require hacking, waterproofing and tile reinstatement. Those works are not assumed to be included in a mixer swap and are quoted separately.

Do I need a PUB Licensed Plumber for shower mixer replacement?

A straightforward replacement of an accessible tap or mixer may fall within simple plumbing work, while changes to regulated water service pipework, concealed pipes or sanitary plumbing require a PUB Licensed Plumber. FixMove classifies the actual scope before work and arranges the appropriate licensed trade where regulated work is involved.

What photos should I send for a shower mixer quote?

Send one full photo showing the mixer, hose and wall, one close photo of the leak or damaged control, the brand or model label if visible, and the replacement unit and box label if already purchased. Also state the property type, postcode, whether hot and cold water both work, and whether a local shut-off is accessible.

Is there a standard call-out fee for the visit?

For a standard visit, FixMove states a S$10 fuel surcharge per visit and no additional standard call-out or inspection fee. An urgent visit or a customer-requested appointment time can add one separate S$30 priority appointment fee, subject to availability and confirmation. Repair labour, materials and additional scope are separate and confirmed before work.

How long does shower mixer replacement take?

An exposed like-for-like swap may be completed in one visit once compatibility, access and shut-off are confirmed, but no fixed duration is promised before assessment. Seized unions, mismatched centres, concealed leakage, damaged threads, waterproofing or tile work can change the scope and sequence.
