Key will not enter or turn
Share the key condition, spare-key result and cylinder position. A bent key, debris, wear and internal damage need different methods.
This page owns authorised diagnosis and access restoration when the key, cylinder, latch, handle, mortise body or digital lock is stuck. A planned upgrade or confirmed failed lock belongs to the door lock replacement owner; a door that drops or misses the strike because of its geometry belongs to the main door alignment owner.
Stop forcing the key or handle. Send both sides of the door, lock brand and type, a short symptom video, whether anyone is inside, and whether the door is open or closed. The first response should confirm authorisation, safety, access and a diagnostic basis; non-destructive opening may be attempted where suitable, but no method, arrival time or damage-free outcome is guaranteed before assessment.
If smoke, fire, a medical emergency, a vulnerable person in danger or another immediate threat is involved, contact the appropriate emergency service and building management. Do not wait for a routine lock-repair booking. Do not climb from height, force a fire-rated door, dismantle live electronic hardware or insert improvised tools into the lock.
Share the key condition, spare-key result and cylinder position. A bent key, debris, wear and internal damage need different methods.
The cylinder may move while the latch, spindle, handle or mortise component does not. Do not assume a cylinder-only replacement.
Pressure on the latch can come from hinge drop, frame alignment or seals. Route the geometric cause to the main-door repair owner.
Provide brand, model, indicators, battery or emergency-power attempts and app or keypad behaviour without sharing access codes in public.
Record both handles and the latch. A spindle, spring cassette, handle set or mortise body can be involved.
Close-up damage, broken-key fragments and prior drilling change the safe opening method, parts availability and making-good scope.
| Condition | First scope | Possible work after confirmation | Not automatically included |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mechanical cylinder or key symptom | Verify key, cylinder movement, latch pressure and authorisation | Suitable lubrication, adjustment or non-destructive access method where appropriate | Guaranteed opening, new cylinder, key duplication, destructive entry or door repair |
| Latch, handle or mortise symptom | Check handle operation, spindle, latch and door alignment | Named accessible component repair or replacement after quote acceptance | Complete lockset, matching finishes, concealed door repair or frame alignment |
| Digital lock not responding | Confirm model, power state, indicators, mechanical override and door pressure | Manufacturer-supported reset, power or component route if available and authorised | Data recovery, account access, cybersecurity remedy, manufacturer warranty or compatible replacement |
| Closed door requiring destructive entry | Explain why a non-destructive route is unsuitable and obtain approval | Only the authorised drilling or removal method and named replacement parts | Invisible damage, door or frame refinishing, fire-rating outcome or all making good |
| Confirmed failed, obsolete or upgrade lock | Move to a measured replacement survey | Separate compatible replacement quote | This diagnostic page owning every digital-lock or planned replacement search |
Postal code, unit type, your relationship to the premises, an on-site contact and the evidence available to confirm authorised access.
Open or closed, whether anyone is inside, whether another entrance is available and any immediate safety concern.
Clear photos of both sides, brand, model, key type, handle and latch edge; include a fire-rating label if this is an HDB entrance door.
What moves, what does not, when it started, any sound or indicator, spare-key result, battery attempt and recent impact or repair.
Broken key, drilling, scratches, loose hardware, bent door, corrosion, forced-entry marks or previous temporary work.
Condo or commercial management contact, access hours, security sign-in, noise limits and any tenant or landlord approval needed.
A jammed lock does not justify altering a fire-rated door assembly without checking compatibility. HDB's building works guidelines state that a replacement main entrance door or frame along a fire escape route is subject to permit and fire-rating conditions. The same guidance says digital locksets for applicable fire-rated doors must meet the stated conformity requirement.
This page does not claim HDB approval, SCDF certification, manufacturer authorisation or locksmith licensing. If opening or replacement could affect the door leaf, frame, closer, fire rating or common escape route, the actual method and compatible hardware must be classified before work.
Possible causes include a worn or bent key, a dry or damaged cylinder, latch pressure from a misaligned door, a failed handle or mortise component, debris, corrosion, a depleted digital-lock power source or an electronic fault. The symptom should be checked before deciding whether repair or replacement is appropriate.
A non-destructive method may be possible, but it cannot be promised before the lock, door position, failure mode and access are known. Drilling, destructive entry, lock replacement and making good require the authorised customer's approval and a separately stated scope.
There is no responsible fixed S$ price from a message saying only that the lock is jammed. The quote depends on the lock and door type, inside or outside access, fault, time and site controls, opening method, parts, replacement need and making good; require an itemised total before authorising work.
No arrival time is automatic. A slot is confirmed only after the address, access, urgency, lock type, authorisation, suitable personnel and current schedule are checked. If a person is in immediate danger, use the appropriate emergency service rather than waiting for a repair booking.
The person requesting entry must be authorised to access the premises and should be ready to provide suitable identity, occupancy, ownership, tenancy or management evidence. Work can be declined when authority is unclear or the circumstances are unsafe.
Use the replacement owner when the existing lock has a confirmed failed or obsolete component, the customer wants a planned upgrade, destructive entry requires a new lock, or repair would not be reliable. This jammed-lock page owns diagnosis and access restoration, not every lock replacement query.
Only written terms in the accepted quote apply. Ask for the covered labour or supplied part, duration, exclusions and remedy; door misalignment, misuse, duplicate keys, battery depletion, pre-existing wear, customer-supplied products and third-party work should not be assumed covered.
